100 Situps Challenge!
We had so much fun with the Burpee Challenge that it's time for a new challenge. Some people were, understandably, a little intimidated with the 100 Burpee Challenge, so this challenge has a way that almost everyone can participate!

What Is It?
The Challenge is to complete 100 Situps, in order to build strength and stamina in the core. But how you do this, depends on your abilities:
- Beginners: Accumulate 100 Situps throughout the week before the contest deadline
- Intermediate: Accumulate 100 Situps every other day (beginning the day after this post), for a total of 300 Situps for the week (you can start late, but realize you have to complete 300 before the deadline)
- Advanced: Accumulate 100 Situps a day (beginning the day after this post), for a total of 600 Situps throughout the course of the week (you can start late, but realize you have to accumulate 600 before the deadline)
Everyone has an equal chance of winning as long as you complete your chosen Challenge level!
A Situp?
Nothing too technical here, we call this a Hands-To-Laces Sit-up:
My Original Photo
- At the top of the Situp, you are seated on the floor with your shoulders stacked over your hips
- Pull your belly button toward your spine, as you lie back on the floor with control
- Reach arms overhead to touch the floor
- To initiate the Situp, reach your arms toward your feet as you Situp
- Attempt to touch your shoelaces, if possible
Why Should I?
Good question! The importance of a strong core cannot be overstated. Only from a strong center can we build strength in the extremities. A weak core will be the weak link in your armour. If you try to strengthen the extremities using loads beyond which your core is able to withstand, then you're putting yourself at risk for injury, most likely a back injury. Source We live in a society where we spend the majority of our time sitting, and usually not in a good position. As a result, the abdominals are weak. The hip flexors and hamstrings are tight. And the result is back pain. You can combat this by strengthening your abdominals and stretching hip flexors, glutes and hamstrings. Source
Never Too Old
And don't think this is only for young, fit people like my model above. All ages and fitness levels can do a Situp. If you struggle with it, let me know and we can come up with a scaling option together. I want EVERYONE to be able to participate! No excuses. But, do work within your abilities by choosing the appropriate skill level. And do get the approval from your doctor before starting any exercise regiment.
