Music Heals The Soul 🎶Contest Time!

Music is an outburst of the soul

- Frederick Delius

Music is really high up on my list of things that remove stress. Some songs can just really touch the soul and do something magical to it. Not just the soul but also your heart, mind and body. Music is just great all around even when in a good mood. There is no better feeling than listening to a song that just gets the beat running your through your veins. The next thing you know your body is dancing to the rhythm and you didn't even realize it.

I always like to see what kind of music someone listens to. At times, I feel like you can tell a lot about a person by the music they choose. If it is jazz or something of that category, I would guess that person is really laid back. Rap would make me think that they have lived that lifestyle. Country in my area is listened to by those that are from the country. Of course, someone can listen to all genres or chose a main one that they like, simply because they want to with no meaning behind it. Each person connects to music in their own way, for their own reasons.

For me, I can go into another dimension from listening to a guided a meditation or the sound of dolphins and then get up and rock with a mosh pit. It's just what I do. I can switch the station from a song talking about riding on dirt roads while drinking beer all the way to a rap song that talks about hustling on the streets. I listen to multiple different genres. It honestly depends on my mood and it really comes down to how well I can connect with the lyrics but also the vibe the song puts out. Reading the lyrics to songs without the music is pretty powerful too. Let me show you what I mean and tell you about some songs that I vibe with.

Train - Drops of Jupiter

🎶But tell me did you sail across the sun
Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded
And that heaven is overrated?
Tell me, did you fall from a shooting star
One without a permanent scar
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there?
🎶

This song holds a special place in my heart. I have this one memory of me visiting my dad when I was younger, he was singing and dancing to this song. I have no idea why this one memory sticks out but I am glad it does because I always feel my dad around when I hear this. I went to a concert in Alabama a few years ago and Train was playing there. My heart has never felt so much contentment until I heard this song in person. For almost 10 years, I listened to this song when I needed to feel him. When I seen the performance, my heart just felt at ease.

Carrie Underwood - This Is My Temporary Home

🎶Little boy, six years old
A little too used to bein' alone
Another new mom and dad, another school
Another house that'll never be home
When people ask him how he likes this place
He looks up and says with a smile upon his face
"This is my temporary home
It's not where I belong
Windows in rooms that I'm passin' through
This is just a stop, on the way to where I'm going
I'm not afraid because I know this is my
Temporary home."
🎶

I don't think I've listened to this song without my eyes filling with a tear or two. Every home has felt like a temporary home. I have moved so much in the past even up to recently that I have just always known, this is my temporary home. I just wish I had a stable home, a comfortable home but for now, this is just another stop on the way to where I'm going...

Michael Jackson -Billie Jean

🎶People always told me be careful of what you do
And don't go around breaking young girls' hearts
And mother always told me be careful of who you love
And be careful of what you do 'cause the lie becomes the truth
Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son
🎶

John Mellencamp- Jack & Diane

🎶Sayin' oh yeah
Life goes on, long after the thrill of living is gone
Now walk on
Jack he sits back, collects his thoughts for a moment
Scratches his head, and does his best James Dean
Well, now then, there, Diane, we ought to run off to the city
Diane says:
"Baby, you ain't missing nothing"

Disturbed - The Sound of Silence

🎶And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence
Fools, said I, you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
🎶

This song blows me away every single time that I hear it. The song is a cover of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel's, 'The Sound Of Silence' which was released in 1964. Beautifully done but being a Disturbed fan, their cover is amazing. Disturbed's lead singer, David Draiman has the perfect voice and his vocal techniques for this song really set it off. Taking the credit back to Paul Simon, he wrote an intensely deep and meaningful song which is one reason why it is so popular.

Papa Roach- Scars

🎶I tried to help you once
Against my own advice
I saw you going down
But you never realized
That your drowning in the water
So I offered you my hand
Compassion's in my nature
Tonight is our last stand
I tear my heart open
I sew myself shut
My weakness is
That I care too much
My scars remind me
That the past is real
I tear my heart
Open just to feel
🎶

If you read my post titled This Is Who I Am, it will probably make sense why I like this song. It hits me on a really personal level.

Israel Kamakawiwoʻole - Over The Rainbow

🎶Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high
And the dreams that you dream of, once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow, blue birds fly
And the dreams that you dream of, dreams really do come true
Someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top
That's where you'll find me
🎶

Most people are familiar with this song because of that fact it was in one of my all time favorite classic movies, The Wizard of Oz. In 1939, this song was sung by Judy Garland but like many other popular songs, there has been covers for it. Israel Kamakawiwoʻole sung this song so well and has a really nice vibe about him that just hits your soul. This song can instantly lift me up. When I was pregnant, I heard this cover for the first time and I would sing it to my pregnant belly or let her listen to it. Now, I sing this song to my birds. They don't like humans but they get tempted when we sing this song and they will let out a few small chirps.

Bruno Mars- Uptown Funk

🎶I'm too hot (hot damn)
Called a police and a fireman
I'm too hot (hot damn)
Make a dragon wanna retire man
I'm too hot (hot damn)
Say my name you know who I am
I'm too hot (hot damn)
Am I bad 'bout that money, break it down
🎶

Don't believe me, just watch

Bob Marley - Three Little Birds

🎶Don't worry about a thing
'Cause every little thing gonna be alright
Singing' don't worry about a thing
'Cause every little thing gonna be alright
Rise up this mornin'
Smiled with the risin' sun
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin' sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true
Saying', (this is my message to you)

Cam - Burning House

🎶I had a dream about a burning house
You were stuck inside
I couldn't get you out
I lay beside you and pulled you close
And the two of us went up in smoke
Love isn't all that it seems
I did you wrong
I'll stay here with you
Till this dream is gone
I see you at a party and you look the same
I could take you back
But people don't really change
Wish that we could go back in time
I'd be the one you thought you'd find
🎶

This song is so beautiful. Her voice is amazing and the song was written so well! She wrote the song after actually having a dream about an ex, her emotions are so real and raw in this song. That is what makes it so amazing.

Patty Loveless - How Can I Help You Say Goodbye

🎶Sitting with Mama alone in her bedroom
She opened her eyes, and then squeezed my hand
She said, I have to go now, my time here is over
And with her final word, she tried to help me understand
Mama whispered softly, Time will ease your pain
Life's about changing, nothing ever stays the same
And she said, How can I help you to say goodbye
It's OK to hurt, and it's OK to cry
Come, let me hold you and I will try
How can I help you to say goodbye
🎶

This song will forever be top on my list. It rips my heart open because of the words but it is absolutely beautiful. My mom used to listen to this song all the time when I was little, for a specific reason. At the age of 54, her mother had cancer spread throughout her body. My two aunts were not strong enough to be there when my grandmother passed, my grandmother waited until it was just my mom in the room with her. My mom sat alone and held her hand as my grandmother passed away. The lyrics to this song are deep, I will never listen to it without filling my eyes with tears, for obvious reasons.

House of Pain - Jump Around

🎶Feelin', funkin', amps in the trunk and I got more rhymes
Than there's cops at a Dunkin' Donuts shop
Sho' nuff, I got props
From the kids on the hill plus my mom and my pops
I came to get down, I came to get down
So get out your seat and jump around!
Jump around!
Jump around!
Jump around!
Jump up, jump up and get down!
🎶

NF - Let You Down

🎶Feels like we're on the edge right now
I wish that I could say I'm proud
I'm sorry that I let you down
Let you down
All these voices in my head get loud
I wish that I could shut them out
I'm sorry that I let you down*🎶

See what I mean? My music taste is about as crazy as my husband @terminallyill thinks I am, lol! This doesn't even touch the surface on the songs that I could put on this list. As you see though, I am a fan of absolutely any genre. Majority of the songs that I choose to listen to have words with meaning behind them and if they don't, it is a song that makes me want to bust a move. This post is fairly random but I was listening to music and it made me wonder what kind of music everyone on Steemit likes. It is always fun to learn more about other Steemians!
