INTENT & PURPOSES - The STEEM-Apocalypse Survival Game Contest

In preparation for Season 2 of the STEEM-Apocalypse Survival Game Contest, I thought it would be wise for me to share about my original intent and purposes of the game and how Season 1 measured up to my expectations.

There are actually many reasons that I created the STEEM-Apocalypse game and I think that it went amazingly well. I'll list some of the reasons below and then add my own opinions about how the 1st season lined up with my goals. They will be listed in no particular order.

PURPOSE 1 - GIVE AWAY A LOT OF STEEM

Since @papa-pepper often receives a lot of STEEM, he also likes to give a lot of STEEM. Often, other steemians do not make as much as I do on their posts. My upvotes aren't worth that much, so if I want to give STEEM to others, it has to come out of my own wallet. One reason that I like to run contests is that it gives others the chance to potentially get some STEEM.

In Season 1 I gave away over 500 STEEM form my own wallet! The winner, @herpetologyguy, ended up with 325 STEEM and every other participant at least walked away with something! Technically, I was hoping that Season 1 would last another week or two and that the total prize pool would be between 500 - 1000 STEEM, but I'll settle for giving away over 500 total with over 300 to the winner.

PURPOSE 2 - INCREASED ACTIVITY

I was hoping to create a reason for people to come to steemit.com every day. By requiring a response from each team on a daily basis, this meant that at least half of the team members would need to check in every day. A lot of the participants were daily users anyway, but the amount of interaction on a daily basis was good.

PURPOSE 3 - INCREASED INTERACTION

Since each team was made up of two players, these two players had to choose together what to do and how to proceed. It was very entertaining to watch some of the teams sort through different points of view and ideas to eventually agree on an option.

One of my favorite things about the game was that it paired a few users together who had not previously interacted. By doing so, steemians who otherwise may not have met were building relationships and friendships, and learning to enjoy interacting with one another. Some of those teams will even be pairing up once again with their new friends to enter Season 2.

PURPOSE 4 - CREATE AND INTRIGUING AND ENTERTAINING SERIES TO WATCH

It seems that at least a few steemians enjoyed watching the 1st season and seeing how it progressed. Both my dad, @grandpa-pepper, and @vcelier mentioned how much they enjoyed watching the series. I was hoping to capture the attention and imagination of some others, and I think that the contest did just that. People never knew what to expect next!

PURPOSE 5 - EDUCATE OTHERS

A lot of the scenarios were based upon real situations that may occur. Some rounds were just random things to potentially kill teams off and keep them entertained, but others dealt with real food and safety issues that people face in survival situations. Whether it was learning about the antibacterial properties of certain plants or about the dangers of over-boiling water, the teams were exposed to some interesting information that they may not have otherwise encountered. Plus, they were able to learn in a fun environment while enjoying some gameplay.

ON TO SEASON 2

Later today I plan on posting the signup opportunity for Season 2. At that point, any returning teams and anyone else who wants to join in will be able to form a team and sign up. Teams will consist of two team members and each team will have to choose a name. If you do not have a partner, please still sign up and we will get you a partner.

Season 2 may be even better than the 1st season, and I am anticipating an even larger number of players. As with last season, the payouts for those who participate but do not win will not come out of the total prize pool.

The total prize pool will be awarded to the winning team(s) and all other payouts will be in addition to that. The starting prize pool for Season 2 will be 100 STEEM.
