NEW CONTEST: Cranium Stadium - Week #1 (Win SBD!)

As I was looking through the #contest and #challenge tags here on Steemit, it seemed that most of the challenges revolved around taking pictures, writing stories, or randomly guessing things. None of these things really appeal to me, and I am not really good at any of them. So, I figured I would add to the Steemit community with my own sort of weekly challenge - a challenge that I would actually enjoy - a challenge based on one's own knowledge and mettle. I am going to call it...

The Cranium Stadium

Awesome logo designed by my wife.

And as a former teacher, I always enjoyed challenging my students with extra difficult problems. I knew that they could solve the problems with their current knowledge, but they really had to understand the material. So, going back to my roots, I will have some sort of competition where you can pit your brain against those of other Steemians for eSTEEM (must have puns!) and real money (a portion of the SBD from post payout). Puzzles, riddles, problems, and challenges are all fair game here. Each week, there will be two challenges of different sorts.

To enter, you need to do the following:

  • Put your answers in a comment on this post
  • Upvote this post (that is where your reward will come from!)
  • Make sure to answer all parts of both questions
  • Each participant is allowed ONLY ONE entry. Only the most recent comment by each participant will be evaluated.

Optional but appreciated:

  • Resteem this post so that more Steemians can see it and increase the reward pool!

Rewards

Everyone who gets one or both challenges correct will get an upvote by me.

After post payout, I will give 50% of the SBD earned from the post to the winner (the first person to answer BOTH questions correctly).

Everyone who gets both questions correct will be given a shout-out in next week's Cranium Stadium post.

Most importantly, fun and a good mental activity to help your brain stay strong!

This Week's Problems

#1 - Find the Hidden Message

Danny runs like a gnome. Ike only eats oats, mutton, round okra, e.v.o.o. glazed albino tuna, bison, and aloe.

#2 - Solve the Problem

Mike is able to run at a pace of 300,000 cm in 3600 seconds. Dave is able to travel 0.6 km in 2 minutes and 37 seconds. If these two guys were to race for a distance of 1,300,000,000 nm, which would win? How long would it take the winner (in seconds)?

Do your best! Winners will be announced and answers along with explanations will be given after post payout.
