STEEM Food Tours #10: Bistro à Table - Petaling Jaya, Malaysia

Bonjour! Bistro à Table or in English "To the Table" was helmed by Chef Isadora Chai, a Malaysian born celebrity chef. Bistro à Table serves gourmet adaptive French cuisine. Chef Isadora's menu is often creative, daring and an experimentative marriage between both French and South East Asian cuisine.

Ode to Newton

A testament to this was in one of her famed signature dessert "Ode to Newton". Ode to Newton is a souffle dessert with vanilla cream, vanilla ice cream and ginger tea drink. The souffle was warm, creamy and fluffy with a strong hint of brandy and they also included a small jug of vanilla cream to be eaten together. What was incredibly unique was that the vanilla ice cream was separated from the ginger tea by a thin layer of ice before the vapour of the ginger tea melts away the layer of ice so that the vanilla ice cream could fall into the ginger tea making it a creamy type of tea. The falling of one scoop of vanilla ice cream into the cup of ginger tea resembled the falling of apple in Newton's law of universal gravitation.

Interior

It's my second time here. We ordered fried zucchini flowers with ricotta cheese and white asparagus with Hollandaise sauce as appetizers. For main, truffle cream egg linguine pasta with French périgord truffle shavings and grilled quail with truffle cream as well as foie gras stuffings were selected. For dessert, we had baked figs on gula Malacca butterscotch with coconut ice-cream. Every dish was crafted with utmost care. They were all a delight to the senses.

The fried zucchini flowers with cheese stuffings were delicate and crispy. On the other hand, the white asparagus were tender. They were well paired with not overly heavy Hollandaise sauce. The truffle cream egg linguine pasta was very creamy as well as flavorful to the extent that it exceeded my expectations. As for the quail, it was grilled to perfection and went really well with truffle cream. However, I'm not a fan of the foie gras stuffing due to personal preference. Lastly, the baked figs dessert was heavenly. I'll return just for the figs.

A set of course meal consisting of 6 dishes and drinks for two costs around RM300++. Another plus point was the modern and yet stylish interiors. This place is really worthwhile a visit for those who loves French cuisine with a twist. Due to limited seats, do not forget to make a reservation before dropping by. Bon appétit!
