Second Creative Writing Challenge: Task #2. More than close friends

Tom is the smartest accountant in town, Joy is his best friend. Tom is 94 and Joy has 95. Both live in San Francisco.

It all started when Tom's parents moved to San Francisco Bay from Houston. When they arrived Tom was sad and annoyed because he had left all his friends and the football team he loved so much behind, to come to an unknown city. That day he argued with his parents and left the house slamming the door.

He walked a long time until he found a park a few blocks away from his house. There was Joy playing alone on the basketball court. When Tom approached Joy he asked if he could play with him. Joy looked at him, threw the ball at him and said "sure." That was the beginning of a friendship that would last for more than 50 years.

The years passed by and their friendship was getting stronger. Tom was very intelligent with the numbers while Joy was a great sportsman. They were a great team and helped each other in school works. Tom had no siblings, only a sister named Ann, so Joy was the brother he always wanted and life gave him.

Both got scholarships for college, Tom as best student and Joey as an athlete. This allowed them to continue sharing within the university campus and to continue helping each other. One night Joey confessed to Tom that he was in love and wanted to get married soon with the most beautiful girl in San Francisco. Tom could not believe his best friend wanted to get married so young, but supported his decision and wanted to be his best man. He was surprised when Joy told him that the girl he wanted to marry was his sister Ann, whom he had loved for many years, but he was afraid that it would break his friendship.

Tom was very protective of Ann and considered that no man was worthy enough to marry her. But when he heard the sincerity of Joy's words, she realized how much she loved her sister so I wish the best for both of them, and told her that it would be an honor to be the godfather of her wedding. Both graduated with honors, and while Tom opened a successful accounting office, Joy practiced with his engineering career.

Tom and Joy are now family, not just his best friend, he became the brother he always wanted, and although they sometimes have their fights, blood ties bind them.

Today they go out to walk together to the same park where they met more than 50 years ago to see their grandchildren play ...
