One year for Christmas, I surprised my mom, Nana, with a quilt I had made. I remember her always telling me that she liked pinwheels and spools on quilt patterns. So I decided to put the two together in a fun quilt. Can you see all the spools and pinwheels?
This was one of the biggest quilts I had made at the time, but my little machine did a great job. On the back, I used the leftover pieces and appliqued "Nana" onto it.
I even tried all over stippling (also known as free motion quilting) on this quilt. It was a lot of work, but I think it turned out better than expected. The main fabric I based all the other fabrics off of was a pretty butterfly fabric with yellow, brown, blue and pink on it.
My mom really wasn't expecting to get a quilt, so she was really surprised. Her quilt now sits on her favorite recliner at her house so she can see it every day.
