Another Blockchain project that focusses on Sports Betting crossed my radar last week (Xwin.io) and I took some time today to take a look at it. The ICO is allready over and they raised around 3.5 Million dollars which is less than what they hoped for ($7.5M) but enough to continue the project. There seems to be quite some activity in their Bitcointalk forum post
Many of these projects talk in their whitepaper mainly about the advantages blockchain and smart contracts can bring to the sports betting industry and how their token gives you part of the collected fees. To serious sports bettor like myself this is not interesting whatsoever, all we care about is the odds and if they crush what is currently available on the markets in a reliable, safe and secure way.
From what I unsderstand, xwin will act as a bookmaker and set their odds with an artificial intelligence. Their bets will be offered in smart contracts on the ethereum network and they will be a centralised oracle who input the match results which settle the bets. (don't quote me on all this)
Right now I don't really take them serious. There are some red flags as they are allready talking about price increase predictions of 1.2x to 4x in the first year after the ico and their referral system works like a pyramid scheme with many levels. I'm not wrining them off completely, but it's unlikely that it will be something I will ever use.
