CME Group Officially Announced Launching Of Bitcoin Futures This December

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group (CME), a major options exchange in the world has officially announced its launch of its Bitcoin futures contracts on December 18, 2017.

Instead of December 10 as previously announced mistakenly by the company, today CME made it to a final date which is 18th of December.

CME's Bitcoin futures will be available for trade on its CME Globex electronic trading platform and will be cash-settled in reference to CME CF Bitcoin Reference Rate (BRR).

CBOE Gets Approved By CFTC To List Bitcoin Futures

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has recently approved the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) to list Bitcoin futures contracts on its trading platform.

The date of launch is yet to be announced after a period of regulatory review and once launched, it will be traded under "XBT" ticker symbol.

CFTC explained that they require the exchanges such as CME, CBOE and Cantor (another group planning to launch Bitcoin derivatives) to agree to important enhancements before they could operate to protect consumers and prevent too much volatility in the markets.

CFTC is confident that these operators will monitor and account for unruly events such as market manipulations and trading outages at cryptocurrency exchanges.
