Bitfinex was hacked earlier this month and lost $72 million in Bitcoins. The exchange has reopened, but customers are not happy as they are sharing in the loss. An investigation is underway and law enforcement is involved.
The reward is 5% of what was lost, equating to about $3.5 million dollars.
This is where things get very interesting. For that kind of money, lots of independent security researchers might apply their skills to attempt tracing the digital footprints in an attempt to track down the perpetrators.
More likely is a lower level accomplice of the thieves may choose to turn in others for the reward.
