๐Bittrex Takes Out Record $300M Insurance on Crypto Held in Cold Storage
Bittrex has insured digital assets held in its cold (or offline) storage to up to $300 million, the highest coverage yet offered by a cryptocurrency exchange.
The company announced the news Thursday, saying it has obtained digital asset insurance that will protect users' holdings in cases of "external theft and internal collusion."
Bittrex CEO Bill Shihara said the cover, which has a limit of up to $300 million, offers "peace of mind" and would show clients the exchange is "committed to prioritizing security throughout all of our decisions and forward-looking blockchain technologies.โ
๐ Tesla Stock Outperforms Bitcoin in 2020 as $10K Bull Run Continues
Bitcoin (BTC) investors face double disappointment from Elon Musk this month as data shows Tesla is the one investment outdoing BTC in 2020.
Figures from Cboe tracking $TSLA stocks against Bitcoin confirm that while BTC/USD has sealed 30% gains since Jan. 1, the former is up more, at 38%.
Tesla hits all-time high
Against the expectations of many, Muskโs firm has become the star of stock markets this month, defying macro pressures to reach all-time highs of $589 on Wednesday.
๐Coinbase Custody and Bison Trails to Lobby Staking Adoption
Coinbase Custody and Bison Trails have joined the ranks of the Proof of Stake Alliance (POSA), a Jan. 30 press release announced. Together with the alliance, they will advocate for the adoption of clear regulations on staking proceeds, as well as other development initiatives.
The Proof of Stake Alliance is an advocacy group founded in 2019 and featuring more than 18 members. It engages in regulatory and congressional discussions to promote staking-friendly regulation, as well as organizing events and educational initiatives.
As COO at Polychain Capital and POSA board member Matt Perona explained to Cointelegraph, the organization's primary goal is to change the taxation regime for staking rewards:
โFirst, POSA is working to address how staking rewards received by token holders are taxed. POSA is currently trying to differentiate tax treatment from bitcoin mining guidance so that staking rewards are taxed on the disposition of the asset (the sale of the reward) as opposed to the receipt.โ
๐Developers Say Google Play Unfairly Booted Their Bitcoin Rewards Game
Google recently suspended and removed bitcoin rewards game โBitcoin Blastโ from its Google Play app store for allegedly deceiving users, but it will not explain to the developers what exactly was deceptive about the game.
On Jan. 20, Google pulled Bling's โBitcoin Blast,โ a match-three puzzle game that rewards users with bitcoin-redeemable loyalty points. The Android version of the game had been live on the Play Store since May 2019, CEO Amy Wan told CoinDesk.
Within that time, she said, it amassed 800,000 users, 20,000 ratings and 13,000 written reviews, placing it at the top rank for โbitcoin rewardsโ searches.
๐ Facebook and Telegram Rival Line to Bring its Token to 82 Million Users
Line, one of Asiaโs biggest chat apps, is set to debut its own digital token in Japan on Bitmax, its own crypto exchange.
Per a number of Japanese media outlets, including Coin Post, the company made its announcement via its blockchain and cryptocurrency subsidiary LVC โ and is aiming for a rollout in April this year.
The Link token first saw the light of day in 2018 when it was listed by a Singapore-based affiliate company, and has been made available on Line-run cryptocurrency exchanges elsewhere in Asia.
However, Line has been particularly eager to distribute the token in Japan, where it claims to have 82 million active daily users. Moreover, the company last year won a license to operate Bitmax in the country from the regulatory Financial Securities Agency, and has already integrated it with its chat app interface.
