Day 25 Christmas Day
#decemberphotochallenge hosted by @deadgrlsuppastar
Christmas morning here in the Philippines is filled with smiles, presents, children flooding the streets, laughter and red envelopes. If you have a lot of inaanak (god child) which is common here in the Philippines. You would hear a knock or the doorbell and greeting you with "Namamasko Po".
This is what they say when they come Christmas morning so better get your gifts and red envelopes ready. This is Christmas Day in the Philippines
Giving gifts to god children and children of relatives is a tradition here in our country. Also using of red envelopes called Ang Pao which is filled up with money is also a custom here. Tradition which originated from China it is used to repell bad spirits given as gifts in weddings, Chinese New Year and holidays. Here it is very popular during Christmas and eyes of kids light up when they see that red envelope.
If we have some Chinese Steemian friends out there. I think I would need help with the translation on the envelope.
The Inaanak (god child) comes early morning along with their parents to receive their gifts. I still remember during my childhood days where we go from house to house of relatives getting a lot of gifts and money. After all is done we rush to the local toy store to buy more toys from the money received. This is the day for children. The day kids have been waiting for which brings happiness to every child.
Though there are some god father or god mothers who sneak away or hide in their houses pretending no one is home during Christmas. Avoiding of the god children on this day. It is not common but it does happen.
Of goes the children to their next destination to get more presents. Leaving you with a smile and the thought that you made a child happy.
Some children also comes with other children hoping they could also get a piece of the pie. If the god father or mother is kind enough they would give them a little bit of money as well. Crisp new bills are exchanged from the bank should be ready at hand as it is favorable to kids. It looks very nice when the money is new when given away or stuffed in the red envelope. Money is preferred by most and would also save you time from shopping and thinking what gifts you would be giving to each one. This allows the children to buy and chose what they would like. It seem practical and saves time for everyone in this busy season.
Beautiful smiles can be seen the whole day long.Much excitement can be felt when they leave kids. Getting ready and thinking what they would spend it on. Steem plays on my mind while creating this content. Would it be possible in the future to be giving away digital red envelopes with Steem instead? That would be awesome don't you think?
