Going On A First Date? Don't Stress, Here Are Some Places To Go

You have a date. Yay.  But know you have to figure out where to take him or her.  Like most things in a relationship it is best if you know the person and can personilze to their tastes.  However, if it is a first date, you probably know very little about them.  So here are some ideas to get you started.

Dinner and A Movie

Oh the classic dinner and a movie.  I know people who don't like going to a movie as you have to be quiet and can't really strike up a conversation.  But I think it is a good envirnmonet to get comfortable with someone.  And it is a good place to make your first move into hand-holding territory.

Bookstore

The bookstore is a great place to bring someone as it is full of books, which means it is full of ideas, which means it is full of things to start a conversation about.  You can literally (happy accident pun) go from aisle to aisle until an interest pops up.  Psychology, travel, programming, Spend some time in the fiction section if you are well-read or maybe a stop at the romance section for a chuckle.  Bookstores are not libraries, so it's cool to make noise and with so many different areas of interest surrounding you, you are bound (another happy accident pun) to find something to start a conversation about.

Board Games Cafe

Who desn't like boardgames?  Cafes have a huge selection, so you can find something intellectual stimulating or something simple and fun.  There doesn't even have to be a competiton involved, it can be a would you rather type card game where each of you can get to know each other better.  I think the verdict is still out on if you should let your date win or not, but if you do lose, but a gracious loser.  Men and women want to know their partner supports them, not make childish comments and throw the board if they happen to best you.

Billards and a drink

8-ball corner pocket. Beside the cliche move of helping the other person line up the shot, pool offers a friendly and lively game that you can play in the background.  Unlike other games that take up a lot of attention, pool is one where you can talk over and not miss a beat.  Sometimes you might even lose track of the game if the conversation really takes off.  And grabbing a beer or two can get the edge off, just don't over-do it, no one wants a first date that starts to see double.

Whatever you pick, don't overthink it.  You want the relationship to work because the two of you work together, not because you distracted them well enough.  Keep it fun, pick somewhere you are comfortable with and see how the night goes.
