Why I Always Get the Daylight Savings Blues

Source

Yesterday I woke up some time after sunrise.

It was a lazy Sunday and the Sun's rays peaked in through the window to hit my eyelids.

I awoke. I turned over. I went back to sleep.

It was glorious.

However the next day was a completely different story.

I had to wake up early for work.

Whereas I had taken pleasure in noting the subtle shifts in shade as sunrise slipped later and later in my commute, this morning I emerged once again to the soft lighting of early-ish morning.

I felt cheated.

I feel cheated every year - and no its not because I typically used to get saddled with the longer night.

Rather it is because I feel that a small part of the experience of living upon this World is a little bit spoilt by our arbitrary meddling.

Its funny how Mother Nature always has a knack for showing our silly human rules the middle finger. I am not a betting man but if I had to place a bet then it wouldn't be upon the misguided species that decided to impose such silly rules.

So, as I head off to sleep tonight I shall think back to the subtle excitement of feeling like a witness as I stepped out of the door and into the cool air morning air, still a dark navy blue as the hues upon the horizon began to shift.

Nope... we humans had to decide to do the following to our experience of nature...

I won't even get into its questionable origins in war-time oil-conservation (if they wanted to conserve less oil then they could have adjusted working hours instead).

No... somebody thought that subjecting humans to temporal confusion twice a year was a good thing to do. Never mind the people who were more inclined to become depressed from the sudden shift - along with the increased risk of heart attack, injury or even suicide. Never mind the increased incidence of traffic incidents due to the sudden alignment of work commutes and the sun being lower in the sky.

Never mind nature itself.

I truly don't get why we do this to ourselves.
