Recently I finished working on a schematic design project with an old colleague of mine. We produced a series of drawings together and had lots of fun during the process. We were very satisfied with the style we pursued and the outcome. The drawings will be used by the competition organizer but there is no outlet for these drawings to take its own life. So, while we wait for the results, I thought I would share them with you on Steemit!
My design partner’s birthday is coming up soon so I wanted to surprise her with a couple of drawing iterations. I completely dismissed the premise of design and added funky elements to alter the concept. This was a nice way to get around giving off too much of the entry design before anything is announce.

This is a quarter portion of one drawing. If you are a subscriber of New Yorker, you’d know how entertaining their cover page graphic style is in every issue. The message that comes across from the cover typology is very strong. Why not mimic that charm?

This is also 1/5 cut portion of a big drawing that includes a streetscape section and the client’s building. There is no way that the flower facade could happen in reality. But why not spruce up some of the older, duller buildings of New York City with some wild bloomage.

And balloons.... for fun
I sent these drawings to a professional custom print company. This is a type of product I expect to get:

The architectural profession is typically dominated by prim and proper renderings with little room for interpretation and imagination. I wanted to take a different approach, allowing a new overall aesthetic to take over the city, least in my drawings and imagination.
So these are the batch of drawings for today. What do you think? Anything else I should try in future work/competitions?
