Hello everyone.
This post is all about vertical gardens and how I went about making a few of them.
Garden 1
This garden was made using dismantled shipping crate planks, old pvc pipes, L-angle frames,
nails, a hacksaw,a hammer, a drill and some paint/varnish.

After sawing the planks into various sizes, I nailed planks of different heights onto a base plank to form a base model that would be remade in various ways, to add aesthetic to the wall.

I joined several base models together which were then attached to the wall with screws. Underneath, I attached planks of wood to the wall with L-angles to form the support for the plants

The plant holders were made from cutting old pvc pipes, and painting them. They were attached to the wood support with a little bit of clay.

Finally, mud was put into the holders and the plants were introduced. This particular garden has mani and tulsi plants.

Garden 2
This garden was made using leftovers from the previous garden along with unused paving tiles. They were arranged around the plants that already existed to provide an aesthetic that tied other elements together.

This garden was made using old tires, anchor bolts, primer and paint, and a drill.

After the tires are painted, drainage and anchor holes are drilled into the tire.
The tires are then attached to the wall with anchor bolts.
Finally, mud and plants are added to the tires.
Garden 4
This garden was made on the terrace of my childhood home using old plywood, L-angles,screws, a drill and paint.
Making these gardens helped me understand the multitudes of ways unwanted items can be re purposed into beautiful creations. The first three gardens were done for a client, so I had to make sure they looked presentable while still utilizing my principle of using natural and reclaimed material. This was my first venture as an individual artist, and seeing these gardens blossom into life was so rewarding. These gardens serve an aesthetic purpose, but could be made functional as well. With spaces getting smaller, and cities more crowded, vertical gardens could be used by apartment dwellers to grow their own vegetables. Vertical gardening is a space I'm enamoured with and will definitely be visiting again in the future.
