I am so pleased to announce that I was the 4th place winner on the Open Mic in Week 82. I can't use @dlive for the competition itself because the tags don't work quite right, so I will upload them here afterward so I can share them with you all.
Lest you think that a little internet competition isn't a big deal, let me tell you that this really is a significant honour. The talent of the people who compete really is amazing: there are many who ought to have established careers, and likely would with enough advertising money (that's just how the world works). It certainly is not for lack of talent, in very many instances. @steemit really is a talent magnet for the world's best and brightest but undervalued, and we should be pitching the site more that way (that initial blog girl advertisement is kind of terrible!). The Open Mic really shows that reality - seriously, check out the openmic tag and get ready to be impressed.
So that gives context: I'm honoured to be chosen, and I mean that.
I'm coming up on a year on Steemit here, and really am so happy to have discovered the platform. It has been such an encouragement as an artist. But the @openmic really played a huge part in getting me plugged in and supported on here, so much so that I don't know if I would have stuck around otherwise. It's a really supportive community that values authentic talent and creativity, and it's a joy to be a part of it when I can be.
Hop you enjoy the song if you missed it a couple of weeks ago! The YT link is at the bottom in case of a lag.
Penny Tears (original)
The rain doesn't have to hurt anymore
Not even the hail
So leave your new, blue umbrella
Your fun, protective shell
The skies have cried their salt out
And the bitter acid taste
So stick your tongue way out now
Take in the weeping's best
And anyone who's anyone knows the secret grace of rain
Anyone who's ever won the knack to seize the day
The children have their rainboots
The puddles dry like paint
You walk right through the world now
Your penny tears well-spent
Your penny tears well-spent
