Enjoying The Most Famous "Xiao Long Bao" at Ding Tai Fung /

There is a saying that no trip to Taipei is complete without a visit to Din Tai Fung, which is the world-famous Xiao Long Bao house! For people who are not familiar with Xiao Long Bao, it is a hand-crafted soup dumpling usually made with pork steamed in bamboo baskets. Din Tai Fung has been recognised for being amongst the best in the world in regards to this particularly tasty delicacy!

Din Tai Fung has also been awarded as a "Michelin Star" restaurant. Quite an honoured, I'm sure you'd agree! The restaurant originated from Taiwan and today, has spread internationally, to where it now has over 10 branches all over Taiwan alone. It is evidently clear as to how popular they are!

I had the pleasure to try out Din Tai Fung in the Xinyi District courtesy of our Taiwanese supplier and rest assured, it really was amazing! Although we arrived at lunch time on a weekday, there were already sizable groups of people huddled together at the entrance, queuing patiently to get in.

We had to wait in line for around 10 minutes, which was not too bad. There is a glass-walled kitchen, where they showcase the action. You can see the staff in attire resembling white lab gowns, getting down to some serious dumpling making!

The signature dish was Pork Xiao Long Bao. Paper-thin wraps with exactly 18 folds, enveloping the delicate and finely minced pork filling inside, with a hint of flavoured broth. And boy, I was truly impressed at how juicy and succulent each one was. Absolutely delicious! There was also a special sauce to go with it, which was a combination of soy sauce, vinegar and strips of fresh ginger.

We also ordered several other dishes too, including Crab Roe with Pork Xiao Long Bao, Shrimp and Pork Pot Stickers, and some stir fried pea shoots. We were not disappointed, to say the least!

The overall dining experience at Ding Tai Fung was just amazing and I consider this place a "must-visit" if ever you are in Taibei. Comes highly recommended.

Enjoy!
