Do you game alone daily and want to stream?
Do you make videos and put them on youtube?
Do you like memes and can type a little?
Trust me, you can if you put the work in make a little income from this ‘proof of brain’ blockchain if you are willing to put the work in — do you research, download the white paper if you have to if you need to reinforce ‘where the money comes’ from but don’t miss out in carving out your decentralised future in the steem blockchain — the battle tested nearly two years live already blockchain, not some ICO erc20 coin BS that’s not working yet.
So, let’s get into this. ..
Let’s be absolutely honest here for the 5% of active content creators out there in the world actually turning up and making everyday to feed the internet content in the hope of maybe making a bit of scratch on the side to pay for upgrades, coffee and the occasional meal/rent.
you sold your soul for shitty adsense crumbs on a centralised network owned by a corporation
It’s ok, I get it. I did it too, but we all know that the actual numbers that you need to have to make anything of a sort of income online these days are kinda massive, you need massive traction, lots of engaged followers (not just followers) and you need to be able to deliver from a round the clock perspective, you gotta be hungry and you have to ‘hustle’ (ugh)
like I said, I get it — it probably started out as you needing a place on the internet to put your video. I had the same problem in early 2005 when we were all using realplayer to encode shit and sticking it on blip.tv because youtube was not made yet (weird that we assume it’s been around forever) we saw the marketers coming in and next up was the adverts.
That’s when it started, the gradual breakdown of the original idea of ‘host your video on the web’ — it became about the followers, the quality, the equipment, the family friendly ness and the ‘certain voice’ of content that the platform wanted to be agreeable to the people they wanted to sell advertising space on, basically they took the platform and turned it into a machine for selling other bullshit on.
But I want you to have hope because every time that youtube makes a change that fucks over small content creators they push more people to decentralised blockchains and opens them up to a new way to create and publish media on the internet that often supports the user and then the market decides if you are worth financial value by it’s upvotes — no middleman, no cut and no fees or waiting a month for your payout, you can expect to see your returns in a week, yes, a week! :)
look at the steem power on these three accounts
So today then I want you to understand why I believe that these three accounts on steemit.com (a front end to the steem blockchain) are sites that you should be following, reading about and ultimately making you media on because they are going to empower you and reward you more than any other media site on the internet today.
@dtube/transfers (2 million steem power)
@dlive/transfers (2 million steem power)
@dmania (600k steem power)
As you can see each of the accounts has a powerful amount of steem power. If you are a newbie you are probably wondering what that means for you in regards of content creation?
quite simply steem power on the steem blockchain is CURATION power, it gives the holder of steem power the ability to VOTE on your content (an upvote or a downvote) and a sliding scale of POWER they want to give that upvote in terms of the dollar amount — often times those with a lot of steem power are called WHALES in the steem ecosystem because they have a lot of VOTING POWER when it comes to your blog posts and media.
these accounts were DELEGATED steem power by @ned (one of the founders of the platform) so that those micro eco systems inside of the steem blockchain could thrive which would hopefully then bring more people to the platform, more people, more engagement, more rewards, higher steem price yada yada - you know the drill when it comes to that.
@ned has often mentioned recently that he would like to see hundreds if not thousands of entrepreneurs and creatives/developers building on the steem blockchain, that is building applications that empower those that want to lead decentralised blockchain empowered lifestyles as he seeks that is the future of online creation (among other things)
$1 on a post is not a dollar when sbd is $3.41 (today)
So as an outsider you are probably looking at some posts and thinking well what’s the point after the split of say 50/50 to write a blog post if you only going to earn say like one of my posts today $4.00 — I’m going to get 2 SBD for that, what’s that well that’s actually $6.82 or £4.67 in GBP and you know what that’s better than minimum wage here in the uk.
So stop for a moment and pause, swig your tea or coffee and reconsider all of the time you are wasting with social media across facebook, twitter and elsewhere where you don’t make even that from your perfectly curated wordpress post from today that took you four hours to write.
My $4 post (so far at least) took me about 15 minutes to write in between going to the toilet and putting on the kettle for more coffee — I’m not writing tons of posts a day but I am spending time on the media ones and I’m building things that actively help and onboard users in these sites.
I’ve been on the platform for well over a year and my account is valued at about $5k if you look at my open, public wallet (we all have one) so you can see that I’ve managed to save up some steem power, I’ve powered down a bunch and continue to do so but that’s because i’m investing in making the media I make better and I work completely remotely and virtually.
we have the tools today to help the jobless
over the course of the last six months I’ve been thinking about geolocation, skills and basic income with a side order of blockchain and gamification — it’s right there, in front of me, in fact anyone could build it, many other platforms similar to this exist but they don’t have a blockchain or crypto currency behind them and instead have middleware and gatekeepers.
We have the ability TODAY to mobilise those in our society that have been left behind, made to struggle on very little to engage, connect and reach out to a global community of DOERS that are wanting to be a better participant in the global conversation without having to play on the LEFT or RIGHT of politics that are effectively disconnecting the people component when the rules and regulations parts of laws are passed.
I’m not saying that this ecosystem be lawless but I’m saying that we should be celebrating our ability to adapt and to survive and instead change the notion of taxation to a celebration, one that a local governance celebrates it’s most active members of society because of their work and dedication to make things better around them.
do your research, get involved.
I’ve given you the keys, what door you choose is up to you, all of them do have a very fast slide down to the blockchain floor, none have viper pits they all are actively building up their slice of community as a ‘side chain community’ based on the overall steem blockchain.
You might want to spend your time coming up with witty memes on dmania.lol because your love to make but don’t have anything to say or blog about.
Maybe your gaming alone and have really wanted to get into live streaming so your family and friends can connect with in that blank space where you normally go digital dark and can get additional income from your audience development and conversation time there on dlive.io instead?
Or perhaps you have just had enough of the continued squeeze of youtube forcing you out of being a content creator when you just go started and don’t have enough viewers over the 1000 required to allow you to earn some income from the ‘cookie cutter’ content machine they want for advertisers?
maybe it’s time to decentralise
