A guest for the week

Over the weekend I got the question if I wanted some company of an old friend. This is a buddy I have known since he was a kid, and I was more than delighted to take care of him the rest of the week.

Meet Pivo the Dog

Pivo is a good ol' grandpa. 13 years old and a mixture or Labrador Retriever with Ratterier. A weird combination right? Yeah, he has always been a bit of a strange one actually, but I am glad to have him here.

So the main reason why he is here, is because his owner is too busy this week with other stuff. I like when people acknowledge that they are too busy, and that it would be better if the dog has a better place to stay for the week. Nothing to be ashamed of, just thinking into the bigger picture.

Old people problems

So this dog is really a golden oldy and that comes with some issues here and there. Pivo ( yeah I know his name is translated Beer from Eastern European, that is part of the joke hehehe) is deaf. And I mean like super deaf. When you slam the front door, he will literally not hear you walking in. Only when the floor is vibrating or you pass him, then he will notice that you are actually around.

This is kind of strange to act on, because you are so used to giving a dog commands. Forget it, it does not work on this one. I have to get in his range of sight to get his attention. Front door bell ringing? Nope, not the guarding type of dog as he used to be.

A burglar would have to pat him on the head for him to notice :) So the majority of the day this dog is minding his own business, and is just sleeping which is cool by me. He reached retirement age, so he might as well enjoy it, right?

But in the park

That is where this one truly comes to life. All of a sudden you dont see a thing anymore of that he is 13 years old. He just want to sniff around and retrieve sticks and balls. That labrador is in there somewhere!

I can literally throw a stick for half an hour, and he will happily bring it back. This is a bit new for me, because my own dog in the Caribbean was always bored with this after retrieving twice or so.

But I have to be a bit cautious with this going all-in in the park thing. I might just overload this doggo and that also does not seem like a smart thing to do on grandpa right?

Rhythm

I like have a doggo around at the moment, because currently Im unemployed with too much time on my hands. Its good to have something alive around so I maintain a normal rhythm. It is otherwise so easy to go into nightwalking, because the majority of the people that you know is in a different timezone.

But in the morning I hear the dog ticking his nails on the floor and that is a valid reason to get out of bed. So this is for sure a win-win situation for everybody ;)

I happy this old guy is here for me to spoil ;)

Do you feel that you need more doggo in your life?
