Darkrai! - Pokémon: Step by Step

Hey guys! I'm pretty sure most of you have seen at least an episode of Pokémon. I'm not entirely a fan of Pokémon but a friend asked me to personify a Pokémon, Darkrai! Since I've been itching to try this 'Color Theory' I just heard of a few days ago, and a drawing technique I picked up from a great artist on Youtube, I thought 'Why not?' :>

Darkrai - Dark-type Mythical Pokémon

Apparently, Darkrai is a Dark-type Mythical Pokémon and has this black and purple void-ish powers and that's all I really know about it. It's not that I didn't have a childhood, I just preferred Detective Conan and Doraemon over superpower-ish anime :> This friend that asked me to draw was just inspired by an art he saw online and wanted me to do my version of it.

Aaaand, since there has been a drastic change in my art style, (or so I think it has), I made a step by step for it~

Step by step

So, ever since I've started drawing, I've been coloring it part by part. I color the eyes, add another layer; nose, etc, etc. In my point of view, it's easier to keep it neat that way, but what I didn't think of is how it will come out as a whole. Turns out that to be able to blend the character/subject with its surroundings, you have to see the image as a whole. And sooo, I thought how it would look like before even starting; when I started coloring, I still colored it part by part, but I learned to mix the background with the subject itself (which is pretty cool).

Sketchy

As usual, everything starts with a sketch~

Since I was gonna paint all over it anyways, I decided not to take too much time on it thus the messy sketchy~

My friend specifically asked for Darkrai itself to hover behind him and so I googled how big Darkrai is supposed to be and he is BIG (4'11" or 1.5m according to Google and that's almost as big as I am).

Color!

Fun part!

So, I just basically slapped the colors together and specifically placed the lighting and such from the glowy orb. \o/

As for this one... It sorta just happened >.> I found myself doing it on one layer, I'm sorry there's not much to see uwu

Next up was the furry coat! Furry coats are fancy and cool (artificial ones because fur belongs to animals, it keeps them warm uwu)

Next up is the haand! What's that? The hand? Yup! I've been practicing n_n (still looks a little weird but hey it's progress)

I'm really happy how the hair turned out. It's majestic and white and looks just flowy enough to look like a dude's hair.

Then was the orbs!

I didn't add much detail to the Pokémon behind because I was planning to darken it out and blur it a little. I just needed its figure.

Final!

Donesies! I might have not mention it yet but I just learned the shortcut key for color picker tool (alt) and man it makes my life so much easier haha
