Assimilate Artwork for albumcover (2012)

I saw some awesome album covers from @haedre with a lot of cool details and thought about the two covers I made in the past. Wanted to post earlier but had to find some time to find all the progress shots and the time to write about it.

Well I think in the end of 2011 I got asked by "Dark Whisper" from Alice-D Records from Germany if I wanted to create an artwork for their new album. I was (and still am) really honored so I said yes although I never did an album cover before. As I was mainly skilled with pencil I was going for a pencil artwork.

I had a lot of freedom which was great as I love to just start and usually give the best results in the style I work in. The artwork would cover 3 sides (3 sheet cover) and wasn't the standard album. So I decided to make one wide drawing and trying to make the front side something that would look like a front composition but flow into the rest. (front is the right part of the artwork).

I'm happy that I have took progress shots during the project and noted all the hours. The total is about 110 hours....Could do it faster but I'm really dedicated and wanted to do the best I could at that time (and still work that way).

I didn't really know how the result would be and just started. If you want to look closer right click on the image. The drawing looks lighter because of the photos. In the end I scanned it and fixed colors and added more contrast.

56,5 hours as you can see I draw all over the place...

Well still not finished...You're still reading? Really? Ok I continue adding progress shots then....

Finished after 110 hours unedited scan version.

When I finished it I scanned it. When you scan pencil work it always look a bit flat and the bigger black parts always reflect the scan light so I have to recolor that. So after 110 hours I spend a while fixing etc but don't know how long it took.

When it was ready I send it to Alice D records. They used the artwork and finished the rest of the design like information songs and inside design.

It took a long time before it got released. I think a couple of years...

But when it did I was really happy with the result. Below you see a picture of the album.

I did another album cover for them some years later, I will post about that in the future :D

Hope you liked my artwork for the album I did in 2012 and the way I showed the progress.
