Hello,
This article is my entry to the Drawing Challenge #2 by @helene.
It shows you step by step how I created these poppies on mini-canvases with acrylic paint and a palette knife.
I hope you will like it π
You can enlarge the images by :
- zooming on the page (push the ctrl key (and hold it) + roll the small wheel on your mouse)
- or by doing right click on the image and then select "show image" (if your internet browser allows it))
Here how to proceed :
You need following material :
β 3 mini-canvases (10 cm x 10 cm)
β Acrylic paint (black, white, red)
β Paintbrushes and palette knife
β Water
β Paper tissues
Paint the canvas in white.
With very little black, create a cloudy grey-effect.
Apply carefully some black with the palette knife. Limit it to the lower third and let shine some grey trough.
Repeat with white in the upper third for the sky.
Charge your knife well with lots of paint for each petal. A petal must be finished off before moving to the next one, otherwise the effect of overlaying petals wonβt be achieved.
Draw a black oval in the middle of the flower with a paintbrush.
Add the 2 last petals in front with the palette knife. They have a very little overlay on the black oval.
Trace thin lines with the side of the palette knife for the grass.
Draw the stalk with the paintbrush.
And for the final touch : make tiny black slashes (by rubbing the paintbrush bristles over the thumb)
Hide the poppy and reserve the splashes to the sky.
The artwork is finished :
Thank you @helene for organizing this contest !
I like the idea a lot to share the step-by-step instructions !
See you soon,
