A Filipino Song titled "Bisyo" for Art Explosion - Originally Written {Contest Entry}

This is my second entry to one of @juliakponsford's ART EXPLOSION contests, which you may read about here. For this week, the theme of the contest is VICES.

I wanted to share my native language with you as well in this art challenge, so I decided to sing and write this song in Filipino. Also, the song does not have any music accompaniment, since I don't know how. So basically, this is in raw A cappella form. I added some echo to somehow mask and improve the vocals (hopefully it worked).

Inspiration behind the song "Bisyo"

Just like my artwork (i.e. my first entry), I wanted to draw out from my personal experiences. I then used this to channel it into a song. I'm not an expert in song writing, but I enjoyed the process. I wanted to capture the temporary escape vices provide us, and then the feeling of realizing that everything back to where it was after. Sometimes, it's just a cycle.

Here's the lyrics in Filipino, followed by the English translation.

"Bisyo"

Minsan napapagod, kaiikot -- Tulala // Sometimes, I get too tired running in circles, staring at nothing

Bakit nahihilo, utak di mapigil -- Magwala // Why am I getting confused, unable to control my thoughts. It's running wild.

Bisyo, aking bisyo tila presong -- Nawalan // Vices. Oh my vices. I'm like a prison who lost everything

Paano na kaya? // What am I supposed to do?

Paano na kaya? // What am I supposed to do?

Araw-araw na dumadaan // Each day that passes

Dahan-dahang pinapawi ang mga kislap ng bituin // Slowly takes away the light of the stars

Nababalot ng dilim // Consumed by darkness

Ako'y isang alipin // I'm being enslaved

Oh ang bisyo na ito ang tanging kaibigan ko // Oh this vice is my only friend

Dadalhin ako sa isang paraiso // It will lead me to paradise

Oh ang bisyo na ito papawi sa kalungkutan ko // Oh this vice will take away my sadness

Dadalhin ako sa isang paraiso // It will lead me to paradise

Ngunit kahit na ganito // Even so

Tila wala pa ring nagbago // Nothing has changed

at iikot lang thin ako // And it just runs into a circle

Kaya minsan napapagod, kaiikot -- Tulala // This is why sometimes I get too tired running in circles, staring at nothing

Bakit nahihilo, utak di mapigil -- Magwala // Why am I getting confused, unable to control my thoughts. It's running wild.

Bisyo, aking bisyo tila presong -- Nawalan // Vices. Oh my vices. I'm like a prison who lost everything

Paano na kaya? // What am I supposed to do?
