DTube Hit #1 On Hacker News!

Yesterday I learned from a Steemit post by @emrebeyler that on Wednesday DTube made it to the #1 spot on Hacker News!

Here’s the link: Dtube – A decentralized video platform using STEEM and IPFS.

If you’re not familiar with it, Hacker News is a news aggregator similar to Reddit, but with a focus on technology. I had a hard time finding specific numbers, but here’s a thread from 2015 that says the site gets roughly 2.6 million views a day, 300,000 daily unique users, and 3 to 3.5 million monthly unique users. The site is run by Y Combinator, which is a tech incubator in the U.S. that has invested in companies like Dropbox, Airbnb, and Coinbase.

It’s definitely worth checking out the DTube thread on Hacker News if you’d like to read responses from a group of developers that like to pick every new piece of technology apart. 😀 @heimindanger (creator of DTube) responded to a lot of comments and it gives a window into the way the site works and its development timeline. For example, he mentions that the site will be going open source in the future.

There’s definitely a mixture of responses, ranging from excitement to confusion to ridicule, but it’s interesting to see how people respond who haven’t joined the platform yet. I’d be really curious to see what kind of traffic spike DTube got because of this.

Steemit was on Hacker News four months ago after an article about it was printed in Wired. In addition to Hacker News, Steemit was mentioned on the Joe Rogan podcast a couple weeks ago.

Will be interesting to see how things develop this year!

Thanks for watching 😀
