THE AMERICAN DINER EXPERIENCE [Upload Fixed] | The Roving Vlogger Day 81 (2017-12-19)

UPLOAD FIXED! Video now actually shows the diner.

Sometimes I want peace when I work out, but other times I crave the distraction of a mindless television show. I had a Korean roommate all through college and our girl time was snuggling up watching rom-com Korean dramas. So when I saw "Strong Woman Do Bong-Soon" on Netflix, I thought it might inspire me to work out harder and become a strong woman myself. Instead, it just encouraged girly romantic feelings that I channeled toward my boyfriend. I don't think he minded.

But the highlight today wasn't finishing the show, it was taking a break mid-way through the day to go to a diner! Diners are one of my favorite things about America, and one of the touches of home that I miss the most when abroad. Huge portions of inexpensive comfort food in a friendly down-to-earth atmosphere - what's more American than that? We walked over to Village Square Cafe, which has all of that plus little touches of local Redmond history.

We ordered a custom omelet with a side of pancakes and toast. The portions are so big that we always share one order, which they split across two plates - we try to make sure and tip generously so the servers don't feel slighted by our small stomachs. We left full and happy.

If you're ever in America, don't miss out on the classic diner experience. They're found in every town and great for people-watching, a place where all social classes and ethnicities mingle over constantly-refilled cups of coffee.
