Blogging about Blogging: My Steem Journey so far

Hello to all allies and amigos! I'm back on Steem with a blog post about blogging, a meta blog!

Seriously, according to my feed its been 21 days since I last made a post, and thats a really long time. A REALLY long time. So long in fact, based on how many people have asked me, 'WILL YOU EVAR BLOG AGAIN??', I thought it time to jump back in and enscribe an update onto the blockchain.

What's that you say? I've been gone so long that you don't even remember who I am? Oh boy....

Since I have been on the Steem blockchain, one thing that I haven't done very well, perhaps I have avoided doing, is sticking down my niche. You see, my wife @ecoinstant and I are homesteaders, we apply sustainable agriculture principles and develop land in Líbano, Tolima, Colombia (in South America).

An important point to mention here - we live in Colombia; while there are other Columbias out there, we don't live in them.

Picking a niche seems really easy! And initially I started blogging about what we do on our farm and the different things that we grow, like coffee and castor. I soon joined a group called @ecotrain (love those guys!) who are steemians committed to making the world a better place, a very noble goal! It's a goal that I can definitely go along with, although I would phrase our focus a little differently: we want to know how sustainable development works.

So here we are, in a rural area in a developing country putting theory into practice! And sustainable agriculture and environmental education are the first two tools in the tool box.

But there is more to the story. Our third tool is applied and appropriate technologies. I am fascinated by the intersection of technology and development. You may have seen me discussing online education, programming, or technological development and the reason is because technology has a very important role to play in the sustainable development of our future societies.

And we are figuring out exactly how to apply it. I will mention here, a small victory for steem and steemians, since november of last year, we have used utopian.io to liberate my friend @kit.andres from living in stress in Bogotá, now he can work from Líbano, and I often see him peddling his bike around town with a smile on his face! Score one for blockchain freelancing!

So I started posting more and more about tech stuff. And tech stuff is fun and important, so important in fact that last October I maneuvered myself into a tech job. This required leaving the farm to a trusted administrator, moving into Líbano's Urban Center, and working everyday! Saturdays were half days and Sundays we had to report to the farm and cut grass en forma, since our administrator took off once a week.

This changed my focus, and I began to post about my continuing education in tech and writing for fun and profit. I got into writing contests, my special favorite being @originalworks (what a prize pool!) and other poetry writing. We'll see how my 52 poems for 2018 goal fares now that I am once again shifting my focus.

This post is getting long, and I have lots of work to do today, but I will leave you all on a happy note! I'm back! And I have a lot more to say ;p

Also, I have discovered that honey bees have lied to us. Enjoy this video by the talented MatPat:

From now on I will be rewarding, at my discretion, @steembasicincome shares to the best comments and participators that appear on my posts. Feel free to be friends with me ;p
