This is How to Make a Difference on STEEM...
Today is the day that @pennsif's one dollar a day initiative starts again. I joined him at the end of last year and gave some SBDs out to good causes supported by Steemit, but this time I had a good idea on how to do it a little differently...
I was listening in to @sircork one lazy Sunday afternoon on Steem Star Network and it amazed me how much 1 SBD, or an upvote could help someone in a country that is politically devastated. I mean here in the UK, an hour's wage is £7.83 and that is more than a month's salary in Venezuela.
I meant to upvote a post from a Venezeluan each day from that moment, but life got in the way and I forgot, but I have a plan I will tell you about in a minute...
The Big Reminder of How Lucky I Am
It was a huge reminder, that we all go about life in our little bubbles, unaware of what is happening in other parts of the world.
Really, the majority of us don't even know what goes on in our street, or block of flats, but every one of us needs to think "what is a little thing I can do to help?".
We might think we have 'nothing', but if we have a roof over our heads, food on the table and a safe water supply, then that is most definitely more than nothing.
Think about this...
Today, every ATM machine in Venezuela is empty. Today, if you go to a bank, you will wait in 4 hour lines to get 15,000 of their basic units of their money.... However, you can only get 15,000 of them out, and that sounds like a lot but, a loaf of bread is 20,000.
(quote from @sircork in this interview)
And cryptocurrency, like STEEM, is saving the day in this politically devastated country. There is going to be no quick solution here. And the agents of @YouAreHOPE. Foundation are making such an impact on the lives of people there (and in other parts of the world too) with their own kindness and generosity.
An Inspired Seed is Born
And when I saw @pennsif's post (and BTW there is over 500 USD pledged already) - inspiration struck a chord.
So no more forgetting about it and pursuing my not entirely selfish goals...
I recognise that I am in a position to help, that doesn't affect the basic needs of shelter, food and water, for myself or my children, so I have no excuse not to.
So for the month of May, at the very least (I hope to be in the position to continue this as long as possible), I will be giving 1 SBD and an upvote to a different Venezeluan on Steemit each day.
Flying the Flag for Venezuela
These are the accounts I will be supporting this week:
(I selected these people through going the NEW posts on the Venezuela tag, which is how I will be finding people to support)
I looked for people who post (relatively) regularly and have earned less than 1 SBD on their posts on the past week at the time of posting this post.

If anyone else could spare an upvote, or SBD, perhaps you could join in?
Or maybe there is another cause on STEEM, that you might want to give back too?
Doesn't have to be every day.
Just sometimes.
Let's spread the seeds of love with STEEM
