Celebrating The Spring Equinox and My Birthday

Today is the Spring Equinox and my 40th Birthday.

I have always felt very lucky to have my birthday fall on the equinox. So on my birthday I wish to share with you the importance of the equinox and how we can embrace this magical time and create the changes we wish to see happen in our lives and in the world around us. We are the ones to take action, we are the ones we have been waiting for.

The Spring Equinox is a time of Awakening, awakening from our Slumber, from the cold where we have hibernated, planted our dreams, our visions for the year ahead. Where we have envisioned them, nurtured them. And now they begin to take shape, where they will grow with the raising warmth of the sun, because after this the days will get longer.

It is a time of balance, where the night and day are equal. It is the time to work on balance within ourselves. To bring our energies into balance, to embrace our masculine and feminine energies and qualities, those that make us whole. To truly understand that our physical, mental and spiritual selves are all connected and need to be balanced, that whatever we do in one effects all three.

It is about getting in touch with our intuitive mind. We place such importance o our logical mind that we have become ignorant of our instinctive and intuitive selves. We need to create balance here. To relearn how to listen and trust ourselves. To follow our gut instinct and inner wisdom. To bring our whole selves back into balance. Because with that balance comes power and with that power comes the ability to bring about change.

The Egg

Today it is popular to buy eggs around this time of the year, it is part of the Easter celebration. But where does that tradition come from. Eggs represent fertility, and the rebirth of nature and they were used in celebration before any modern religion. They are full of potential. Everything that we have been incubating over the winter can now hatch, bringing forth new creations, new ideas.

Alder Tree

The alder is the third tree of the Celtic Tree Ogham. It is associated with Fire, because of it's red catkins but also with water as it tends to ground alongside rivers. It is my birth Tree and it represents balance and understanding. It brings awareness and connection to what is happening below the surface. It brings balance between our inner watery intuitive selves and our outer fiery logical selves. If you wish to undertake any challenges or face up to things that you have been avoiding, then the Alder Tree is one that you should spend time with.

The Alder Tree leaves can be mashed with water to make a poultice for swellings and sores, you can also use the fresh leaves inside your boots when you are hiking or walking long distance as they soothe aching and burning feet.
The bark of the tree produces a powerful red dye. The flowers make a green dye and the twigs a brown dye.

What are your dreams and visions for the year?

What projects and changes are you bringing about?

Now is the time to put them in action, nature is here to guide and inspire us.
If we all strive to create changes, to take positive action, to spread hope, we can inspire others.
By giving we are opening ourselves up to receiving.

In the spirit of spring, to help it arrive and for our energy to rise, we should dance. Here is something I like to dance along too. Just give it time to kick in and dance your way into Spring.Enjoy xx
