Today in Ed's Garage: repairing the dreaded oil leak on the family van.

There comes a point in most cars lives when they start to leak. Sometimes it can be cost prohibitive to repair, but in my minivans' case the fix only cost $65 and about 40 minutes of fun.
We really don't want to leak oil into the enviroment either. Anything on the road drains directly into the river. Then the fish eat the oil, the racoons eat the fish, the cows eat the racoons and we eat the cows-it's the circle of life.

Yeah, I know what you're thinking:a cool guy like Ed has a minivan? These things make perfect family vehicles, especially when you have more than two kids to haul around.

For a year now I knew there would be a problem with the transmission fluid cooler lines as they were damp. Well with the recent cold snap here they did start to drip.

Todays helper in the garage will be this silver 1960 Canada 1 dollar coin.

Actually my son Ben will be hanging out in the garage with me. I'm trying hard to not let my kids grow up to be donuts so they will be treated to real world problems all the time.

There they are, the leaky lines.

For this job all we need are a few basic tools.

20180107_171953.jpg

And a drain bucket.

Here you can see where the lines attach to the transmission.

And where they connect to the cooler.

Slide back the little plastic retainer and remove this tiny metal clip. Then the line pulls right out.

See the little slot where the clip fits.

Old and new. Installation is reverse of removal.

After some clean-up it's time to check the transmission oil level...but wait there's no dipstick just this silly plug! I'll have to borrow the tool from work one evening to ensure the oil level is correct.

The last step is a quick vacuum because my wife and kids certainly won't do it. What's this hiding under the front seat? My shoes I thought I lost at Waskeseiu lake in August.

Job well done folks. Keep your vehicles running clean and safe.

⭐Here's the funny thing-normally I get paid to repair other peoples vehicles. Well you're going to push the upvote arrow and pay me to fix my own!🤣
