Activity 2 Review Guessing Game

TIME NEEDED: 5-15 minutes
MATERIALS: Marker / Whiteboard or blackboard and book. (Low resource)
LEVEL: Year 1-2 (Beginner)
LEVEL OF INVOLVEMENT: High and easy for all,
GOOD FOR: Review

This guessing activity is a fun, easy and inclusive way to review simple vocabulary in the classroom.
It helps children to re-inforce language learnt in the lesson, or previous lessons.
It is involving, and takes no set up time to prepare. It gets them to repeat a phrase many times, and actually enjoy and use the language taught practically.

I have used this activity many times, to great success. It alwys generates a high livel of excitement, energy and invovlement.

RULES WITH EXAMPLE

  1. Review the language (can be anything involving question / answer)

Good questions to use.

  1. Is it a ...... ? (Yes it is / No it isn't )
  2. Do you like? (Yes I do / No I didn't)
  3. Did you go to the ......... ? (Yes I did, no I didn't)
  4. Adjectives ( Is it ..... ) (Yes it is / No it isn't )
  5. Are you (happy, sad, angry etc) (Yes, I am. No I'm not.)

Always keep one question with 6-8 answers, otherwise it can get too complicated.
Usually 6-8 nouns as the choices

  1. Write the possible answers on the board. (Ice cream, apples, strawberries, pizza, carrots, bananas). If you reviewed more than 6-8 words, you can get the students to choose the list.

  2. Divide the class into 2 or 3 teams. Write down the team names on the board.

  3. Take the first (choosing) group outside the door
(to prevent the other group from cheating, and adds to the excitement)

Get them to quietly point in agreement to one of the possible answers (in the book if possible, if not you can write them on a piece of paper. ( If one of them shouts out the choice, you should change it as the students inside the classroom may hear. )

  1. Go inside, let the first team sit down.
  1. The next team now need to ask team 1 "Do you like..... ?" and guess one of the answers.

images.duckduckgo.jpg

IF THE GUESSING TEAM (team 2 or 3) ARE WRONG (most of the time) - The choosing team should answer in the negative (No, I don't, No I'm not)

Make sure they ALL shout loudly for the answer MAKE IT FUN :)

If the guessing team (team 2 or 3) are correct, they score 1 point,

Now the next team's turn to go outside. DO THIS IN ORDER!! team 1, then team 2, then team 3 for example.

This is a easy and fun game for 1-2nd graders not to be taken too seriously and a good way to end the class....

Remember the questions can be adapted, but one rule for this game is KEEP IT SIMPLE!! There should always be 6-8 variables, and 2-3 teams.
