We here at the One Strong Youth Organization on STEEMIT understand the importance of learning basic multiplication at an early age. Multiplication and division can be introduced in its most basic form at the earliest opportunity so that children can begin to familiarise themselves with these key operations.
If you have a second grader who is curious about this or even a third grader who is just learning their facts have them practice with these 3 min drills once a day. We will post new worksheets every day beginning with multiply by 4 worksheets.
Having a basic understanding of multiplication forms the building block for other mathematical concepts. Once children are confident in the use of their multiplication tables they can begin to apply this knowledge to calculating a variety of sums.
As an example, knowing that 2 x 2 = 4 will help children understand that 20 x 20 = 400, and 200 x 200 = 4000. In the future having these skills will help children when they handle money, share items with their peers and cut food into portions they are beginning to build up their division and multiplication skills as part of their everyday life. An introduction to these ideas at an early age will mean that as well as gaining confidence in the subject, they will be able to utilise these skills in the wider world.
