The Adire and Kampala fabric is a multicoloured Tye and Dye fabric, commonly produced and worn in Southwestern Nigeria, being more prominent in Abeokuta. These designs are of different types, patterns and it adopts different techniques, depending in the cloth material and the desired result.
Recent Adire Fabrics production adopts the use of wax or paraffin as resist agents in place of indigenous cassava paste. To meet the high demand for Adire fabrics, stenciling has been replaced with a block printing technique of applying the hot wax.
The Adire textile appeals to the fashion conscious folks in Yoruba land and all over the country. The fabric could be sewn into the Yoruba buba and sokoto, buba and iro, agbada, etc.
