Peter woke up with a little bit of a hangover. He totally overdid it the previous night. Yesterday was just a little bit too much to handle, and he had no one waiting for him at home. He only got to bed at about Eleven thirty.
He turned around to check his alarm clock. Three o clock in the morning. “Dammit, where the hell is the pain tablets.” His head was throbbing. He had quite a few beers last night but at least he knew that he made a new friend last night.
Once they arrived at the local pub, all the stress from the rough day disappeared into thin air. Peter turned around and grabbed his pillow to try and get more sleep. Suddenly he felt restless. His mind kept racing back to that crime scene. He suddenly felt sick again and just made it to the bathroom.
He decided to take a shower and knew that it was no use to go back to bed. Perhaps he could unpack one or two more boxes….
He arrived at work before 6 o clock, and switched on his computer. The office was already busy and people walked in and out of the editor’s office. “I wonder if Meredith ever went home?”
Peter got up to make himself some coffee. “Great you’re early" Meredith suddenly said behind him. He got such a fright that he nearly spilled the coffee all over his computer. “You startled me...what can I do for you? "You need to phone detective Hanson. It has something to do with yesterday’s photos."
Meredith turned to go back to her office. “Seems like you had quite a night last night Peter…she laughed and proceeded to her office. He sat down at his desk and dialed the number. He was startled when a woman answered the phone.
“I need to see you, can we meet somewhere now?” Peter agreed and wrote down the address of the local diner. Perhaps some breakfast would do him good. He didn’t eat at all the day before and he could feel the growling in his stomach. He grabbed his jacket and walked out the door. The diner was not far, and he arrived a few minutes later.
When Peter arrived at the diner he did not know who to look for, but as he entered the diner someone waved to him and he walked closer. Detective Hanson was not at all what he expected. She looked more like a teacher than a detective and would certainly not pass for a cheerleader, but there was definitely something about her.
She stood up when he walked closer. She had shoulder length brown hair and eyes that looked straight through him. Any man worth something would definitely take a second look at her.
“Do you want some breakfast?" she asked " I am starving."
He nodded, and she ordered a hearty breakfast for both of them.
“A woman that is not afraid of food…I like... Peter said and smiled to detective Hanson.
"What can I do for you detective?” "We changed the docket from yesterday’s robbery. Nothing was stolen. This was clearly murder."
Peter did not look up from his breakfast. Just the mere thought of this crime scene made him shiver. He swallowed and asked:
“What do you need from me detective? I’m sure I already did my part.”
“I totally disagree. I need your view on things. There is just something about those crime scene photos you took yesterday. You have excellent observation skills and you captured a few things that could help us with the case.”
“I will be glad to help in any way I can.” Peter said.
Detective Hanson took the last sip of her coffee and signaled for the waitress to come closer.
“I’ll get the bill don’t worry about it” Peter said. Detective Hanson smiled and nodded.
“Unfortunately I have to go. It was a pleasure to meet you Peter.”
After she left, Peter finished his coffee and paid the bill. He couldn’t get detective Hanson out of his head. This might be quite an experience, he thought to himself as he walked towards his car.
