Final Deed

Mara lingered beside the fresh grave. Benji deserved better.

“I saved this.” Rob pressed the collar into Mara’s hand. “To remember him by.”

She fingered it, wiping her face. All that remained of her precious dog.

It was time.

“He’s in our hearts. He’d want to be home. Let’s go.”
