Let Me Tell You About this Elder (a 5o-Word Story for @jayna)

Hi, fifty-worders and readers.

This is my debut into @jayna's #fiftywords contest. I’ll do my best to follow the work of others, upvote and comment, as I understand this is about community building.

The prompt for this week is “shade.” I’ve chosen the shade under an elder, motivated by ancient legends of infernal fire coming from its wood.

I hope you can read my entry, and hopefully, you’ll leave a comment.

Here I go.

Let Me Tell You About this Elder

The remains of a bonfire looked indecipherably old. He’d come find her at the labyrinth's mouth, licentious date—teenage Valentine—. Unseen until nighttime, vigilant devil’s eyes grew among the elder’s purple-black berries. Again, a child was conceived in the shade; he’d be born, but none was ever to leave.
