fiftywords stories: Round-up and Genre for Weekend 4: 19th CENTURY HISTORICAL FICTION

The weekend starts here! I hope everyone enjoyed their trips to the zoo this week. I certainly loved reading where you took your stories and I finally managed to join in again with one of my own.

We also sped past another milestone this week. With two-hundred and eight stories in total we've rocketed past the double century. Prolific work people! In addition we've added five new authors to our ranks. Please welcome:
@gearup, @isufbakaj, @jesusalbertorios, @simgirl, and @thekittygirl
Make sure to visit their blogs and their stories to give them a welcome start.

And of course a congratulatory round of applause and pat on the back for all of you who have joined in so far. Here's the up to date list of active writers if you want to visit your fellow fiftyworders:
@ahmadmanga, @authorofthings, @awhsarada, @belemo, @bentheredonethat, @busdriver, @calluna, @charlesmackenzie, @chidiarua, @deirdyweirdy, @elementm, @ellievallie, @enjar, @felt.buzz, @gearup, @gonzo, @greycrasan, @hannihealth, @isa93, @isufbakaj, @jayna, @jesusalbertorios, @jrhughes, @korfiatis, @lonestarpoet, @metzli, @miniature-tiger, @mydivathings, @navaneeth, @niallon11, @pixiehunter, @preparedwombat, @pyrowngs, @saoirseronan, @saryn, @simgirl, @spalatino, @sukhasanasister, @svarozich, @sweetjoy, @thechosenwhan, @thekittygirl, @therosepatch, @tibra, @tin-tin, @vaitelavicius, @weirdgoose, @whitewizard, and @yomibolo.

So a big thank you to everyone who joined-in with the "Zoo" theme. We had giraffes and gorillas, macaws and monkeys, lions, tiny tigers(!) and people in cages. I particularly liked this role reversal from @sukhasanasister:

A whole menagerie of rebellion and spot on fifty words!

Congratulations also to @niallon11 and @gonzo who fought over the top of the trending page throughout the week!

In a continuance of last weekend's twist I thought we would keep with the genres at weekends and leave the themes for the weekdays. So this weekend challenge yourself to produce a fiftywords story in the genre of 19th CENTURY HISTORICAL FICTION. Your story can be set anywhere in the world but time-wise we're talking 1800 to 1899. There doesn't have to be any explicit reference to the year in your story, just imagine your characters in that time and write what comes to you.

I'll round up again on Monday with the weekday theme. I will be happily resteeming one of the stories I like best and no doubt I will be offering some of my small upvotes as encouragement.

Thanks for reading everyone and good luck with your trips into the past! And enjoy your weekends!

If you would like to join in, particularly if you're new to the platform, or recently returned, and looking for somewhere to start, please do! Just post your story with the "fiftywords" tag. You can follow the theme / genre or simply take your inspiration where you find it. The only unbreakable(!) rule is to keep it to fifty words - ideally fifty on the nose - and also try and produce a complete and contained scene, moment, or story. In a future post I'll try and put some thoughts together as to what I think makes a good fiftywords story. But everyone will have their own ideas and all are welcome!
