Ruby stepped out from the forest and boarded the canoe. The mountains loomed in the distance, taunting her. For one split second she wanted to turn away.
She peered inside her satchel. The dragon’s egg lay still--her only hope of getting Jared back. She gripped the oar. Time to go.
This is my #fiftyword story for @jayna's challenge. The theme was forest. While this turned out more as an opener than a micro story, I still kinda like it. Maybe one day I'll explore this story world and expand on what you see here :)
