Continuing the 'What to eat in Finland' series, we have our favourite snack - Taquitos! A taquito is actually is a Mexican dish that typically consists of a small rolled-up tortilla with fillings like beef, cheese or chicken and is crisp or deep-fried.
You might think this is weird because we're eating Mexican food in Finland but it's actually really common here and we got to try many different cuisines.
Anyway, we came across taquitos in a convenience store in Mikkeli, and it was one of the first snacks we tried here. We saw it in R-kioski, which is a Finnish convenience store chain. They sell a few ready-made snacks and taquitos were one of them.
The 2 for €2.50 offer caught my eye and after translating we found that it was kinda like a chicken spring roll. At the time we were hungry after walking around Mikkeli so we decided to give it a try!

They're actually really yummy! There were 2 types; mild and spicy, so we bought 1 each. The spicy one actually had a bit of a curry flavour and it was sooo good! There was chicken, cheese and I think some pepper inside the taquito. It wasn't crispy because I think it was baked instead of deep fried and it wasn't hot since it wasn't under a heat lamp, but it was still yummy! 😋
After that taquitos soon became one of our favourite to-go snacks, and we bought it whenever we were hungry from grocery shopping. We tried to find frozen ones from the supermarket so we could make them at home but we couldn't find any! We even tried to ask the cashier at R-kioski (using Google translate) but she couldn't tell us. 😔
I saw some recipes online and they didn't look too difficult to make, so maybe I'll try making them here in Singapore! I think if someone sold them here in a taco stand or something it could be pretty successful. If anyone knows where I can find them here that'll be great!
