This post today will be for all my fishing junkie followers! If any of you currently have a review for any fishing product please feel free to leave the link below. I'd love to see what you guys are using/having luck with. I'm fishing in New Hampshire, USA, we are currently in a great striped bass (striper) fishing season. My fishing partner and I are currently fishing the mouth of the Merrimack river looking for some thirty pounders! Unfortunately we haven't broken any records this year but we've found some good ones!
I'm going to give you guys a quick run down on the best bang for your buck striper rod on the market right now. The Penn Pursuit II offers the ability to catch huge fish at a fraction of most rod & reel combo prices. I currently have two of these and they are the only rods I use on my boat.
Pros vs. Cons
- The spool is large allowing 360 yards of 25 lb test. Which comes in handy for trolling. Good luck *spooling this reel stripers!
*Spooling: Allowing the fish to pull out all of your line - Foam grip is extremely comfortable. I used to use only cork grips because I liked the way they look. Now I've realized these are much better on your hands over long periods of time.
- By far one of the smoothest reels I've felt on a salt water pole like this. It makes next to no noise if you keep it free of salt & sand.
- The price is crazy cheap! I picked mine up on sale for $60.00 each at a local trading post. Normally they are $70.00 but that's still a steal! Cabelas.com is currently running a special on them (8/18/2016).
- There really isn't much wrong with this combo. It was designed perfectly for the boat angler. The only thing I could say is that they have a bit of weight to them. It hardly could be considered a problem seeing how my girlfriend has no problem casting with this set up for hours.
Best place to currently buy them:
- Cabelas.com
Upgrades:
- The Penn Pursuit II is the all the black version. They also offer the same pole in red & gold. Both of these versions are more money & offer various improvements. I do not believe that the upgraded versions are necessary.
How can we trust you?:
- Well I got the pictures to back it up!
(Both fish caught on the Penn Pursuit II)
Final Rating:
- I would give this pole combo five out of five stars.
