The Message
You sat down to write, but the keyboard started moving on its own accord. Words were appearing on the screen before your eyes...
The words forming spoke of pain, loss and remarkable visions. I knew you were no longer of this world. You turned to me and a slow, sad smile grew on your beautiful face. I was riveted to the carpet in the room we shared. I remained speechless as the document grew.
"Sharrine, I didn't know. No one knew"
A tear slid down your face from eyes as deep as an artesian well. A vision floated into your eyes, burning into my brain; a superimposed memory. Suddenly, the memory became mine, a shared nightmare now haunting us both.
The letters intensified on the keyboard, your invisible fingers flew as sentences grew into paragraphs, and soon chapters evolved from a once blank screen.
I wanted to rush to you, take you into my arms, wipe the tears of heartache you bled down your flawless cheeks. I was mentally on my knees.
"Stop! Please, stop. I can't bear this any longer!"
"No!"
The keyboard interrupted my howl, "it's all true!"
Visions of a burning city, children wounded and wailing silently like on a Hollywood horror war film emerged. For an instant, a bright explosion filled your eyes and smoke floated into those liquid blue vacancies where striking green irises once pierced the person who looked upon your visage.
"You must tell someone," the new words on screen commanded.
I stared at the screen. My heart pulsed as though struck by electricity. My brain rebelled at the suffering, coiling like a hungry python, constricting my vessels.
Tears were flowing unbidden down my cheeks. I lurched as bile jumped to my throat.
"I don't know what to do? Who will believe me? Everyone will think I lost my mind because you're gone!"
The keyboard pounded and the pages were flying by.
"Print this," it said.
"Everything they need is right here."
Coordinates appeared on the screen. In the moving hollow eyes, a new picture formed. A thick wooded area crowded the vision.
"Free them," the keyboard commanded.
In your eyes, a path became visible in the wood.
A scene of you walking surfaced. The old you. Slender, filled with life, you moved gracefully through the path, crouching swiftly at one point, as though you heard a noise. You dodged to the left, but not fast enough, because large men rushed you and grabbed you by the waist. The vision clouded. Your eyes filled with an inky black.
For an instant, a bright explosion filled your eyes and smoke floated into those liquid blue vacancies where striking green irises once pierced the person who looked upon your visage.
The keyboard stopped typing. For moments that felt eternal, you stood as if waiting. Then a thin line of blood formed at your throat and moved with expert efficiency across your pale, white throat. Blood began to rush down your skin, pooling on a white blouse like Rorschach stains.
The keyboard resumed typing, this time with deliberate strokes, every letter capitalized.
"SAVE THEM!"
My cell phone in my pocket moved. I snatched it out and read the text message, “Angel, where are you?
I hurriedly texted my response to my fiance, fingers trembling,”David, I need your help. I know what happened to Sharrine."
My phone began to ring.
