EASY STRAWBERRY JAM RECIPE

EASY STRAWBERRY JAM RECIPE

How to make strawberry jam at home - this is my grandmothers recipe.

In Latvia the jam is prepared so that the fruit remains whole because we don't spread our jam on bread or toast but prefer to eat it from a jar with a teaspoon at evening tea.

We think of the berries and very sweet syrup as more of a fruit confection than something to make the bread taste good.

Varenie - jam is our favorite way of preserving summer fruit.

This jam is not your typical, It is a kind of jam, where you have whole pieces of fruit in lots of transparent colorful and aromatic strawberry syrup.

Strawberries are sometimes called a fruit of love, since they have a heart shape, are red in color and are believed to be an aphrodisiac.

Ingredients :

1 kg or 4-5 cups of washed, hulled strawberries

700 gr or 3 1/2 cups of sugar

1 lemon juice squeezed

Directions

Step 1: Wash the strawberries and discharge the berries that have dark spots or don’t look good. Cut the leaves. If your strawberry is big in size, cut it into halves or three pieces.

Step 2 : Add the sugar, lemon juice and leave it for 3-4 hours or best overnight in the fridge. When you check it in the morning, there should be enough juice to make the jam.

Step 3 : Bring the mixture to boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Make sure you collect the scum. Turn the fire off and let it rest so its cooled down completely. Repeat the step two more times.

Step 4: You homemade jam is ready to be bottled. You can use glass jars. Make sure that they are clean and washed with boiling water. (In order not to crack your jars with very hot water, put a table spoon in it when you are pouring water). In closed pasteurized jars it stores almost forever at room temperature.
