Honestly I figured this out in the summer of 2006 when I was on a cross Canada roadtrip.

You get out your big block of cheese. Cut those slices of cheese as thick as you want, the George Foreman Grill doesn't care!

With it's hinged lid and non stick surface, not much can go wrong here.

This literally takes 2-4 mins total, depending on how you want your sammich once you shut the lid. Truthfully, if you plug the grill in while you get your bread/cheese ready, it warms up fast.

You can honestly unplug when you want once it is warm, because the heat flows thru these things for a long time after. I usually unplug it once the bread is on and the lid is down maybe 30 seconds in.

Now I am not a fan of the teflon/nonstick surfaces myself, they are not healthy to cook on. You can wrap your sammich in parchment paper if you want, to keep the bread off the surface. You will not get those sweet grill marks but that is not uber important here really.

The reality is your bread is on this for 1-3 mins on average ---- you will have to decide the details for yourself -- but some are not aware of this issue.
