Dear Steemit friends~ As time goes time, it's just another 9days until a brand new year.
At this special day, we Chinese used to celebrate Winter Solstice Festival which can also be known as Dongzhi Festival. It is traditionally a time for the family to gather around and reunion at the end of the year. By this, it is common that we make a special dessert which is called tangyuan (湯圓) or alternatively known as glutinous rice balls to symbolize reunion “团圆” because they are round in shape.
Let's Start! :D
Ingredients:
Glutinous Rice Balls
-250 grams Glutinous Rice Flour
-1 cup Water
-1 drop Food Colourings
Ginger Syrup
-50 grams gingers
-3 stalk of pandan leaves
-50 grams brown sugar (self-adjustments)
Steps by step tutorial:
1.Pour the measured glutinous rice flour into a mixing bowl, combine water little by little, stir and knead until it forms a smooth and flexible dough is formed.
2.When the dough is ready, add your desired colour. Pink, red, blue, green, any colours are fine :)
3.Split dough into different parts and shape the dough into small tiny balls or whichever shape that you desire.
4.Shape the dough into balls by a circling motion on your palm.
5.Peel ginger and tie a knot on the pandan leaves. Alternatively, substitute with pandan essence that could be found at the supermarket.
Information: Just in case you're wondering what is Pandan Leaves, it is a herb that you can widely found in Asia countries. It tasted very similar to vanilla with a very fragrant sweet and green taste to your dish. It is always widely known as Asian Vanilla in western countries.
6.Boil the ready-made glutinous rice ball over medium heat until it floats on the water means it's ready.
7.Cook the measured brown sugar, pandan leaves and ginger. Boil over medium heat for 10 minutes. Then add the cooked glutinous rice balls into the syrup and serve hot :)
