Beer review : Weihenstephaner Vitus / Weizenbock (7.7% ABV, world's oldest beer !)

Hebergeur d'image

Historical and institutional brewery in germany, since the year of grace 1040, the Weihenstephaner house proposes a style of traditional beer of this country thanks to the addition of wheat in the brewing of their productions. And it is after more than one Millennium that this iconic beer, spearhead of this brand, was recognized and welcomed by all the beer lovers in the world, at the very famous competition of the World Beer Award in October 2011!

After so much praise, let us sharpen our sense of taste and begin tasting by taking care to pour the holy grail into a suitable glass.

In the first place, the beer has a light amber color and a generous and creamy foam. This beer is not filtered before bottling and is therefore slightly cloudy due to the use of wheat.

On the nose we can smell pleasant aromas reminiscent of fresh fruit mixed with a slight hint of aromatic spices. In the mouth, the attack is made particularly silky, reminding us that it is a beer with a consistent body. Beautiful fruity flavors of banana and citrus fruits accompany lemon flavors, akin to a candy, while the yeast brings notes evoking the cloves, counterbalancing a little the first impression. The final dries gradually and offers some bitterness.

An exquisite nectar that will delight the most gourmants of us and which will be appreciated, all the more, on a hot sunny day. A style more pleasant than goutu, decidedly we are in front of a beer with strong character.

This is a good introduction to artisanal productions from Germany (Andechs, Paulaner, Schneider Aventinus, Franziskaner ...)
