A Jeezzle Review: Beanfield's Nacho Rice and Bean Chips

Bean and Rice chips?

I saw these chips at my local market so I figured I would give them a try.

This is the first time I've ever seen Beanfield's Rice and Bean chips.

The package looks good and enticing but they say you can't judge a bag of chips by its cover.

Flipping them over to look the ingredients one thing really stands out.

There is no corn or potato in these chips at all.

The first four ingredients are Black beans, Navy beans, Brown rice and Organic brown rice.

After that you've got your oil and seasoning.

So the only thing keeping these chips together is actually beans and rice.

I like beans and I like rice but I can't imagine how they can make sustainable chips that would have a nice crunch to them.

I went ahead and cooked my dinner and made room on the plate for some of these chips.

You can't really tell from the picture but it is baked chicken with a mild seasoning blend consisting of cumin, curry powder, onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper.

I also have some onion rolls on the side that I got from the local bakery.

Situated there between my knife and fork is the Beanfield's Nacho Rice and Bean Chips.

How do they taste?

Well I'm not going to lie to you.

The texture is definitely a bit strange.

It is crispy though and I'm not really sure how they achieve that effect with beans and rice.

To tell you the truth the consistency is actually quite a bit like a corn chip which means that these chips are a success because they are able to emulate corn chips quite well........ however there is a slight difference in the consistency because beans and rice together do not add up to corn.

As for the flavor I would say it is a disappointment.

Now don't get me wrong these chips aren't bad tasting by any stretch of the imagination.

However the nacho flavor is definitely a seasoning flavor and does not appear to be part of the chip at all.

These chips taste like beans that have been heavily dusted with a packet of nacho or taco seasoning.

Getting the correct consistency in these bean and rice chips so that they appear to be corn chips is quite a feat and is amazing in and of itself.

However, they should have simmered the beans in some sort of nacho flavoring so that the nacho flavor became part of the beans itself instead of an afterthought which is heavily dusted on top.

Despite that I would say that these chips are success.

If you're looking for a healthy alternative or if you don't feel like eating corn or potato chips why not give these a try?
