Instant Noodles.. Food of the GODS!
Nearly as long as I can remember I've been cooking and eating instant noodles. The small packs of noodles come in a variety of types and flavours, not even mentioning the easy preparation and clean up of these delicious noodle based meals. Mmmm Delicious!
I'll be reviewing today are Yakisoba: Teriyaki Beef Flavoured noodles - Made by Maruchan.
The package of noodles pictured above cost a little over $1.00 CAD which in today's economy in Canada isn't that damn bad for something warm and delicious to eat. I've probably tried every type of instant noodle pack I have set eyes on for the most part. However I never was inclined to review the quality of the various brands on instant noodles! Let's change that.
The Goods
The cooking instructions above are so simple even I can make it! +1 Chef skills for @klye!
Two different packages come to mix in. You veggy package goes in and cooks in the noodles.
The seasoning powder was slightly sweet smelling and didn't taste overly full of MSG.
Nothing overly fancy looking about the dried out noodles that come in the container!
The Preparation
One of my favourite things about eating instant noodles is how darn easy it is to prepare them. Either add boiling water from a kettle or add water and microwave. For this review I decided to use the microwave as I didn't have access to a kettle at the time.
After microwaving for 4 minutes the noodles had become cooked and I was ready to mix in the flavour pack. One difference compared to "conventional" instant noodle packs is that the flavour package is added after the noodles have been cooked. A wee bit different for sure.
An action shot of me mixing in the teriyaki flavour pack into the now cooked noodles.
Once mixed the noodles damn near look and smell like a restaurant offering. :)
The Taste
Ah, the best part. Eating! Now I'm a huge fan of all sorts of different instant noodles from all countries of the world. The flavour of these noodles wasn't terrible at all. A mild teriyaki flavour with no spicyness and all sweetness. Admittedly I'm a huge fan of the teriyaki seasoning and this didn't disappoint in that respect at all! Not bad noodles!
The only real draw back I found with this style of instant noodle was that once the seasoning package was mixed in and had sit for a minute or two while cooling down instead of being a nice sauce viscosity it felt a wee bit on the slimy side. Perhaps next time I shall try adding a small amount less water and see if that aids in getting rid of the slime factor.
KLYE's Instant Noodle Rating:
3.5 / 5 Steaks on The Snack Scale
These aren't bad instant noodles if you're looking for some teriyaki flavoured noodles! The taste is pretty damn delicious and the only reason it didn't make 4 / 5 steaks was the slimy factor mentioned above. Worth trying if you like sweet instant noodles for sure!
