Caipirinha - Traditional Brazilian Cocktail Recipe

The Caipirinha ( it's called "Caipora" by "Paulistanos" (those born in the São Paulo downtown)) was created in 1918 in São Paulo by large landowners farmers in the city of Piracicaba( São Paulo countryside) and the classic version is made with "cachaça" ( distillate sugarcane also known as "pinga"), lime, sugar and ice. Usually in restaurants it is served with the"feijoada", and in the bars has become an international cocktail. Nowadays there are several Caipirinha versions as "Caipiroska" (made with vodka), the "Saquerinha" (made with sake), and also instead of putting lime today can be made with other fruits such as strawberry or kiwi that they are good too, but in my opinion the traditional caipirinha is still the best.

Ingredients (one cocktail)

  • About 150ml cachaça
  • 1/2 medium lime
  • 3 tablespoon sugar
  • Ice Cubes
