Hi Steemians, long time no see and the foodaholic is back :) Last weekend we had a great experience with homemade Steemit cupcakes and the local campaign to advertise our community to potential users. It was such an interesting time that I would never ever forget (especially faces of people who ignored my flyers LOL). If you missed that post, it’s here and I think it’s fun to have a look ;)
After almost a month of being a Steemian, I find Steemit an interesting place where I can freely express myself. I have new friends here who share the same passion with food. It is so great when you write something that you are so excited about, and people keep encouraging you by positive comments. How cute my Steemit friends are ! Therefore, I decide to start my series of food entries exclusively on Steemit. I have traveled a lot and everywhere I go, I am gonna look into the local cuisine there to write my food journal. I hope you guys will continue to support me and my work. Now is the very first destination: Berlin, the capital of Germany.
As introduced from the very first post, I am an Asian, I love Asian cuisine but I am not living in Asia. I You could say that Germany is considered being my second hometown. Unfortunately, German food is “not that good” to me, German cuisine tends to be somehow tedious since there are not so many types of food here, only German sausages and doener kebap :( When I first came here, I was so excited about discovering the local dishes, however it turned out that they are all not my cup of tea :( I miss Asia, A LOT.
Nevertheless, everything has changed when I visited Berlin. Although it was just a short trip, but I had a chance to try many good dishes from different parts of the world: Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese, Italian etc... and of course, Vietnamese- my most favorite is definitely on the list.
The first morning: BANH MY in COCO BANH MY DELI
“If you haven’t tried a classic banh mi, imagine all the cool, salty, crunchy, moist and hot contrasts of a really great bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich. Then add a funky undertone of pork liver and fermented anchovy, a gust of fresh coriander and screaming top notes of spice, sweetness and tang “ - The New York Times
“Banh Mi is the great fusion of French baguette and Vietnamese tastes” - Boston Globe
My hubby’s friends took us to this cool and cozy
restaurant and I have to tell
that I was totally impressed. The décor is so fresh with many
tropical fruit baskets. The Banh Mi stall is clean, simple but neat
with various ingredients such as pate, beef slice, salted vegetable,
tomato, lemon, some Vietnamese special herbs etc. Customers can add
anything that they want. I chose a Banh My with beef slice, pate and
vegetable. The flavor is a little bit different from the original one
in Vietnam that I’ve tried, however it does taste good. Another
thing that caught my eyes is bottles of salted lemon. Look how cool
it is:
I decided to
order a cup of iced salted lemon. It was great with many layers of
flavor: sweet, sour, salty and a little bitter. This is definitely a
must-try when you come to CoCo Deli, highly recommend !!!
It tastes best when all of them are combined together.
BUBBLE TEA-
BoBoQ Tea shop
After
shopping for hours, this delicious drink is such a good relief. Not
too sweet, rich in tea flavor, chewy with black pearls is all that I
can describe (I ordered the original black milk tea with pearls ^^).
It was such a good news that they have bubble tea here in Germany, at
my place there is nothing but beer and soft drink, which makes me
very upset :P
CHINESE
DISHES FOR LUNCH @ GOOD FRIEND CHINESE RESTAURANT
This restaurant is said to be one of the famous Chinese eating place in
Berlin. When I got there, it was around 1pm and tables were almost
full. Looking at the menu, I just wanted to order everything since
they all sounded amazing. There are several Chinese dishes there,
from the famous Peking duck, dim sum, wanton noodle soup to fresh
seafood like Crab and lobster. Especially, they even have my most
favorite Chinese food of all time: chicken legs in special Chinese
sauce. I could not believe I could have it here in Germany.
Undoubtedly I must order one, or two ? :D

AFTERNOON SNACK: “FLOWER ICE CREAM” - AMORINO BERLIN (MITTE)
To be honest, this ice cream cone is too beautiful to be true :) When my friend sent me the picture of this “flower”, I instantly added it on my must-try list when in Berlin. And eventually I had a chance to see and taste it, for real :P There are many flavors that you can choose, then they make them into the shape of a flower. It was fun watching the cone being made.

DINNER @ BLOCKHOUSE STEAK – BERLIN
My hubby said that in Germany, there are two most famous steakhouse : Maredo and Blockhouse. I have tried Maredo in Dresden but the taste is just okay. To be honest, I do not like Western steak since it is bland and somehow dry. I prefer the Eastern style with marinated beef, which is more flavorful. However, I had to change my mind after the dinner at Blockhouse. The steak here is so soft, moisture, even when it is cut into quite thick piece. Although I have to add salt, it is definitely the best steak in Germany, to me. I also love the side dishes coming with the main steak: a grilled potato with creamy sauce, a slice of garlic-butter bread and a big salad plate with American sauce.
Look howcool the potato is, I just love it :x
The salad is fresh as well ;)
That is the end of my first day in the Berlin’s food trip. I went to many new places and eagerly tried yummy dishes that could not be found in my current city. It goes without saying that I have fallen in love with this wonderful city, Berlin – where there are too many good food and good restaurants. My post is getting too long and I hope you guys are not bored yet. See you soon in the second day of Berlin’s food paradise <3<3<3
Bon appetite!!!
