First of all, I rarely cook. So when I read about @healthsquared's challenge, it was indeed a challenge for me. This is my finished product.
I love Japanese food and I have been craving for agedashi tofu with miso soup since I tasted it in an expensive Japanese restaurant. It was the least expensive there but I still cannot afford to buy it so I tried to make my own. Surprisingly, it is very easy and affordable. I bought 2 cubes of tofu at 5 pesos (10 cents) each at the wet market.
I wanted to make plain agedashi tofu and plain miso soup but the challenge said something new or something I haven't done before. I looked for whatever was readily available as I was pressed for time. I bought a heap of turmeric days earlier at 20 pesos (40 cents) just because I felt for the old lady selling them and I didn't know what to do with them. I thought of incorporating it in my miso soup.
I grated a piece of turmeric then sauteed with onions, miso, dried wakame (seaweed), and chili. I added water then diced tofu lastly.
For the agedashi tofu, it is supposed to be deep-fried but to make it healthier, I steam-fried it.
For the sauce, it is Filipinized version, just plain soy sauce (and sweetener if you like). I topped it with katsuobushi and more chili. (I like it spicy!)
This was all experimental but amazingly tasted good. I even surprised myself. I had a stomachache earlier and this light meal was perfect. I spent less than a dollar because I just got leftovers and whatever was available. Craving satisfied with this #PoorGourmet!
